What’s Your Blog Really About?
Brian at copyblogger asks What’s Your Blog Really About? and gives some good tips for writing an about page.
Most blog’s About pages tend to be about the author, not about the blog. And most of the time, that’s where visitors will click away, never to be seen again, because they were provided with no compelling reason to ever come back.
I completely agree with Brian. It’s the “About” page that most visitors read on their first time visit to a blog. And if the page cannot give them good reasons to stay, they might just leave.
Here are some things you must include in your “About” page
- aim of the blog: A short description of what you blog is aimed at
- what you blog about: Describe what you mainly blog about. Here at johntp.com, I blog about Technology,Computers and the Internet.
- a link to your top posts: Collect all the top tutorial articles of your blog and place them on a page called ‘Top Posts‘ and link to it from the About page, explaining to readers what they can find there.
- some info about you: A short description about yourself. It would be good if you could explain how you ended up blogging.
- ways to contact you: Provide all the ways you want your readers to contact you with like your email address and messenger ids.
- ways to subscribe: In the end kindly ask them to subscribe to your blog feed
Check my About page to get an idea. It may not be the best example of an “About” page but you will get the idea of how it should be.
A successful “About” page can help you convert casual surfers to regular readers.
