The Power Of Anchor Text

The keywords in the anchor text of incoming links to a site is one of the most important factors for ranking well for the keywords you target. Knowing this well, John Chow got his blog to the the number one position for the keywords ‘make money online’ by offering a free link back to the sites that review his blog and link to his blog homepage with the anchor text ‘make money online’.

However he is making a mistake by getting people to link his blog with only an anchor text of ‘make money online’. If too many sites link his blog with the same anchor text, Google will be able to find out that these are artificial links and may soon kick his blog out from the first page of the search result itself. Infact this happened recently.

How To Automate Bold Text Exclusion In ContentLink

Kontera’s ContentLink is an in-text advertising program that displays double underlined contextually relevant keywords on a web page that upon mouse-over opens a small bubble like box that displays and links to an ad from one of Kontera’s advertisers.

One problem that Kontera’s publishers commonly face is that sometimes ContentLink link to bold and heading text which can be annoying at times.

To prevent this you can restrict ContentLink ads on certain areas of a page by using the following Span filter tags

<span name=KonaFilter>Text you don't want ContentLink ads to appear on</span>

WordPress Plugin: Buy Me a Beer

Buy me a Beer is a WordPress plugin that allows your readers to donate money to you via PayPal. The plugin adds a “Buy Me a Beer” button to the sidebar and at the end of all posts. When your readers click on that button, they are taken to the secure PayPal page from where they can donate money to you.

Why add a “Buy Me a Beer” button instead of a simple “Donate Money” button?

Past experience shows me that asking people to donate money by giving them a specific reason increases donations by 200%!

For people who prefer non-alcoholic drinks, there is a setting to replace the beer mugs with coffee cups.

I currently have this plugin installed and will try it out for about a month to see if it turns out to be a good way to make money online. Ok I am tired and thirsty, how about you buy me that coffee now? :D

Chitika Linx – In Text Advertising

Chitika Linx is an In-Text Advertising solution, similar to Kontera’s ContentLink and Intellitxt, that is currently in beta and being offered only to selected publishers on an invitation basis.

Chitika | Linx will automatically identify key products/keywords mentioned in the content on a website or blog and hyperlink (double underline) those keywords to interactive paid (CPC-based) product listings featuring best deals, offers and promotions from name brand merchants. When users mouse-over these links, a small bubble-like scroll over is revealed listing offers from merchants.

How To Bring Back The Preview Frame In WordPress 2.2

In WordPress 2.2, the post preview frame (the frame at the bottom of the edit screen showing a preview of your post) was removed and replaced with a preview link. Though I prefer this new change due to the speed improvements in editing a post, some people do not like it.

For those who want do not like this change, there is a plugin to return the preview frame.

Installing the plugin is easy, just upload the preview-frame directory to your wp-content/plugins directory and activate it in the admin panel. The post previews will immediately start displaying when you edit posts.
