Fixed: WP-PageNavi does not work on UTW Tag Pages

A few days back I noticed that the latest version of WP-PageNavi WordPress Plugin was not working with the latest version of Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) on Tag pages in WordPress 2.1. I contacted the plugin author of WP-PageNavi and soon got the fix for it.

As the author won’t update the plugin on his site until about 1st May 2007, you can download the fix from his forum.

WordPress Plugin: Add Related Posts To Your Feed

Back in August 2006, I had explained a way to add Related Posts to your feed. But it involved modifying the wp-rss2 file. Now thanks to Solo Technology, you can add related posts to your feed without modifying any file but by just activating their wonderful WordPress Plugin.

You will need either UTW or w-a-s-a-b-i Related Posts plugin installed and activated.

Their first release of the plugin only supports UTW. So if you want support for w-a-s-a-b-i Related Posts, download the second release.

Installation

Download the plugin from here, unzip it and upload it to your plugins directory and then activate it. That’s it!

Why do you need to add related posts to your feed?

Because it will help you get your RSS readers to visit your blog and thereby increase your blog’s pageviews.

WordPress Plugin: PXSMail with Akismet

These days I have been getting spam mails send using the contact form on this blog. Some of these mails look like

You have a wonderful website here. May God rich bless you always.

Looking for information and found it at this great site

Just while I was thinking of a way to avoid this, Mark (from Weblog Tools Collection) came up with a plugin that adds the Akismet comment test to the PSXMail plugin. Inorder to use this plugin you have to have Akismet installed and activated as a plugin already with a valid Akismet Key.

WordPress Plugin: Full Text Feed

If you have upgraded your blog to WordPress 2.1, you might have already noticed that if you use the <!–more–> feature it will cut off your posts in RSS feeds. This can be really annoying if you prefer full feeds.

CaveMonkey50 has created a WordPress plugin called Full Text Feed that prevents WordPress 2.1+ from adding a ‘more’ link to your RSS feed.

Installation

Unzip full_feed.zip, upload the full_feed.php file into your plugin directoy and activate the plugin.

TripleK2 0.9.3

Atlast I got some time, so here it is - the WordPress 2.1 compatible version of TripleK2. Sorry for the late update, but these days I have been busy with a lot of other things.

TripleK2 - A Three Column K2 Mod for WordPress

Upgrading from an older version

  • First go to K2 Options panel, click on the Uninstall K2 button. This will deactivate and clear your K2 options. Ignore any headers error that you get
  • Rename the old TripleK2 folder to something else
  • Upload TripleK2 0.9.3 to your WordPress themes folder
  • Copy your schemes (if any) from the old styles folder to the new TripleK2 styles folder
  • Activate TripleK2
  • Go to K2 options page and select your style (if any) from the K2 options page

WordPress Plugin: Top Posts by Category

I have mentioned before the importance of a Top Posts page - it makes it easier for visitors to find the best content on your blog without having to dig through your archives and helps you to to get them to subscribe to your feed and convert them to regular readers easily.

Until yesterday I was manually listing out important posts on my Top Posts page. But it is no more needed to do it manually thanks to Marc Macalua who contacted me yesterday as soon as he finished his Top Posts by Category plugin.

Top Posts by Category is a plugin for WordPress that allows bloggers to display their best posts categorywise, as determined by the number of visits to the post or number of comments.

You can view my Top Posts page (by number of comments) in action here.

WordPress 2.0.7 Released

WordPress 2.0.7 has been released and is recommended that all users update as it contains fixes to the PHP security problem and the Feedburner issue that was in 2.0.6.

Users that have upgraded to WordPress 2.0.6 that was released a few days back, don’t have to update all of their WordPress’ files. Here is the list of files that have changed since 2.0.6:

  • wp-admin/inline-uploading.php
  • wp-admin/post.php
  • wp-includes/classes.php
  • wp-includes/functions.php
  • wp-settings.php
  • wp-includes/version.php

Also, the next major version of WordPress (2.1) is due out by the end of the month :)

WordPress 2.0.6 released

WordPress 2.0.6 was released a few hours ago. This new version includes an important security fix and it’s recommended that everyone upgrade.

Here’s what’s new:

  • The aforementioned security fixes.
  • HTML quicktags now work in Safari browsers.
  • Comments are filtered to prevent them from messing up your blog layout.
  • Compatibility with PHP/FastCGI setups.

For developers, there’s a new anti-XSS function called attribute_escape(), and a new filter called “query” which allows you filter any SQL at runtime. WordPress 2.0.6 will be probably the last release before WordPress 2.1 comes out.

Exploit discovered in WordPress Template.php

A Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been discovered in wp-admin/templates.php in WordPress which allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the file parameter.

Attacker-supplied HTML and script code would execute in the context of the affected site, potentially allowing the attacker to steal cookie-based authentication credentials or to control how the site is rendered to the user; other attacks are also possible.

All versions of WordPress are affected. WordPress has fixed this for v2.0.6 and released a patch for v2.0.5. To patch, simply overwrite the original file after taking backup.
