GMail Delete Keyboard Shortcut

Amit Agarwal recently found a simple keyboard shortcut to delete email messages in Gmail that works across all web browsers.

If you are reading a message in GMail, press the # key (Shift+3) and that message will instantly move to Trash.

Alternatively, select one or more email messages in the GMail list view, press the same # hash key and all the selected GMail conversations will be deleted in one batch.

This secret keyboard shortcut is very useful, I wonder why Google decided not to share it with GMail users.

SEO Title Tag 2.0

SEO Title Tag is my favorite Search Engine Optimization plugin for WordPress and I recommend all WordPress users to install it. The plugin allows you to easily optimize the title tags across your WordPress-powered blog (for not just the single post pages and homepage) and since Title tags are one of the most important on-page factors for search engine optimization, this plugin can be very helpful.

Create A Robots.txt File And Increase Your Search Engine Rankings

The robots.txt is a simple text file used to tell search engine bots which pages on your web site should be crawled and indexed. Neil Patel wrote a post on the Link Building Blog that on his personal blog he created a robots.txt file so he could remove any junk pages and duplicate content from the search engines. After doing this, his web site traffic went up 11.3%.

Google Videos

These are some interesting videos about Google I watched recently. Enjoy!

Power of Google

This movie depicts that in the future the entire information in the world will be collected and controlled by Google. All your emails in your Gmail account are scanned and Google collects your personal data using cookies and account information to just display relevant text ads?

Google is also collecting user data in other ways. The Google homepage for example sets a cookie on the client computer which is valid until the year 2038.

Feed Count Meme

Maki from Dosh Dosh has created a meme about displaying Feed Count and has tagged me. The following are his questions for the meme with my answers:

Why do you display the Feed Count for your blog?

I have been displaying the feed count on this blog ever since I discovered Feedburner which was a long time ago and I had only about 20 RSS readers back then. It was late by the time I realized that I had made a mistake by displaying my feed count so early. It would be best to display your feed count when you have atleast a few hundred subscribers, as a low feed count can discourage some readers from subscribing to your blog.

Coming back to the question, I decided to keep the feed count anyway as I have a decent feed count currently and that could help me get even more subscribers.

How To Improve Your Affiliate Earnings

Affiliate programs are done on a Cost Per Action (CPA) basis, meaning they require some action inorder to get you money like signing up for the program or buying a product. Many people don’t realize that if they use affiliate programs properly, it can turn out to be one of their biggest money makers.

A common mistake made by some people are placing banners of various affiliate programs on their site thinking that it will earn just like that. I would recommend you to choose the affiliate programs that matches your blog content so that they perform well for you.

Once you find the affiliate programs matching your site content, don’t just place it’s affiliate banners on your blog. While the banners may get you some clickthroughs, the chance of conversion will be low.

New Appearance for Vizu Polls

Recently the appearance of Vizu Polls changed to what I would say is better than the old one. Everton does not seem to be pleased with the new look as he could earlier blend the polls more to match the look and feel of his site. The poll borders and the gradient in the new appearance cannot be removed.

Simple tip to increase your Comment Feeds Subscribers

Everton has mentioned a simple yet effective tip that helped him to get from 5 to 200+ subscribers to his comment feed! The number of subscribers to his comment feed jumped to 80 overnight after making this change.

The tip he gave was to add the Comments Feed to the list of feeds that are displayed when a user clicks on the RSS link in the browser.

Comment feed

All you have to do to make this change is to find the following line in your header.php file

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?> RSS Feed" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />

and add the following code below it

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?> RSS Comments Feed" href="<?php bloginfo('comments_rss2_url'); ?>" />

Once you have done this, your Comments Feed will be listed alongside your main feed making it easy for your visitors to subscribe to your comments feed.

I have just made this change and wish to see the same increase Everton had with his comment feed :)
