A New Fresh Look For AdSense Ads

AdSense announced today that they have given their AdSense Ads a new look. After checking out the screenshot, I find the new look visually appealing and less like an advertisement, especially with the ‘Ads by Google’ placed at the bottom.

Here’s how the new AdSense ads look

I think the new look will blend better and thus may help increase CTR (Click Through Rate) and help advertisers too. The AdSense team says that they are in the process of rolling out this change to all ad units, and we will be able to see our ad units automatically updated over the next few days and that the fonts and colors of our ads won’t be changed.

How To View Deleted YouTube Videos

If you have used YouTube before then you will have surely come across this message “This video is no longer available” and have probably been disapointed. That’s the message you see when they remove a copyrighted video clip from YouTube.

It is now possible to watch deleted videos on YouTube with Delutube as long as YouTube maintains a copy of the video on their servers. Delutube also lets you view random deleted videos.

To view the deleted video, just supply the YouTube video id and Deltube may retrieve the deleted video from YouTube for you.

WordPress 2.1.3 and 2.0.10 Released

There is a security update release now available for download for both the 2.1 and 2.0 branches of WordPress and is highly recommend for all users of both branches.

These releases include fixes for several publicly known minor XSS issues, one major XML-RPC issue, and a proactive full sweep of the WordPress codebase to protect against future problems.

These frequent updates are beginning to annoy me. I guess I am lazy to update :D

What happened to standby and hibernate in Windows Vista?

When I first installed Windows Vista, I was confused when I did not find the features I used to frequently use in Windows XP – standby and hibernate. A quick look in the Windows Help and Support gave me the following answer:

In earlier versions of Windows, standby saves your work to memory and puts your PC into a power-saving state. Hibernate also puts your PC into a power-saving state but saves your work to your hard disk so that you can safely turn off your PC.

Windows Vista combines standby and hibernate into a single power-saving state called sleep.

Disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista

Windows Vista is the most secure version of Windows that Microsoft has ever developed. User Account Control (UAC) is part of Vista’s new security feature that aims to reduce the exposure of the operating system by requiring that all users run in standard user mode. This limitation minimizes the ability for users to make changes that could destabilize their computers or inadvertently expose the network to viruses through undetected malware that has infected their computer.

Get a FREE Site Wide Link on JohnTP.com (Update)

At the beginning of March, I had offered a FREE site wide link on this site for a month to anyone who signs up for Text Link Ads using my affiliate link.

I got a few people letting me know through comments and emails that they signed up using my TLA affiliate link, but so far TLA has not shown any of their names on my Referrals list.

I did a get a few referrals but all of them were advertisers who were referred by my Text Link Ads Review post (who probably found the post via Google).

So why did their names not show up? It could be probably because they did not install the advertising script on their site for seven days.

In order to qualify for an affiliate payment, a referred publisher must install the advertising script on their site for seven days. At this time the referral will appear in the affiliate’s account.

If an affiliate refers an advertiser who purchases an advertisement, the referral will appear in the affiliate account within 24 hours.
