FeedBlitz Bug Gets JohnTP.com 2540 Extra Readers!

banner

Just noticed that this blog has 5484 readers today! Now I know something has to be wrong as I had only 2944 readers yesterday. I checked a few other blogs to see if they had a similar increase in their feed count and found that Problogger.net has 100k readers today! Yesterday I think the blog had only around 44k readers.

I thought that it was caused by a bug in FeedBurner, but actually its a bug in FeedBlitz.

Some readers are reporting a spike in reported subscribers that don’t match the actual count in FeedBlitz. We’re trying to get to the bottom of the issue right now. It isn’t a spam attack or anything unpleasant like that, probably just a previously unknown defect (ok, a bug) somewhere in the code. Updates will follow as and when.

I guess the bug is now fixed and tomorrow we may see the actual feed count. Was your blog hit by the FeedBlitz bug?

I saw a spike to. It happened the day after Sciencebase broke through the 3000 mark. I had 4154 RSS subscribers just for one day! Back to a reasonable 3138 now, a figure with which I am happy, for now.

Narrh, it’s definitely dropped, unfortunately. I think it depends on where you are in the world as to when you see Feedburner updates. It’s usually 8am GMT here. And, I did a refresh on my count graphic just after that and it was down to 3138. That’s still 2-3 hundred up on the previous week’s average

We spiked from 573 yesterday to 1200 today. Thursday we had 569 and spiked to 666. We’ve been growing a lot over the past few months, but I’ll believe our usual 1% steps, not this.

It’s happened again. Yesterday I saw a jump from 3138 to 3505, which could be genuine, but this morning I’m seeing 5852, which has to be a glitch. Unless yesterday’s post on periodic tables captured the attention of thousands of new readers on Sciencebase.com, which I somehow doubt very much.

If Feedburner et al don’t get this fixed soon, they’re going to lose users as bloggers really don’t want to be reporting silly subscriber counts.
