Show me where he’s said that you will remove the ability to pass page rank and you will absolutely not incur a -30 or -950 penalty? If he has said this I have not yet seen it.

He’s also been very clear that the only penalty is removing the ability to pass PageRank. You won’t be deindexed.

I don’t agree. Matt Cutts has been VERY clear that buying links for traffic is fine, but buying links for link juice (like TLA does) is completely against their quality guidelines. That’s why using something like AdBrite is fine (ads served with javascript) and TLA is not (you can’t use rel=”nofollow” at all).

Sorry but that's completely inaccurate. You will NOT be delisted from the index for running TLA on your site. Google have clearly stated that the only penalty for buying or selling links is the reduction in your sites ability to pass PageRank. This is yet another example of the Google FUD Factor.

Personally John, I don't know why you or others would use TLA when you could get a google penalty for using Text Link Ads. I know many use them still, but it's a complete violation of google's web quality guidelines. With a google penalty you could lose all of your google traffice overnight - I won't risk that, which is why I took my text link ads down.

If you want to hide the affiliate links so that you don’t have to change all the posts again if any of them changes, and you are using wordpress you might want to look into my new plugin that will let you manage such links from your wordpress admin.

Actually, an easier way to do this is to install the Search and Replace plugin for WordPress and then use it.

newbies may find it a problem to edit the database.

I got an easier system. I use a click counter on my blog for this and then just link to that. That means changing in a single location only.
