Matt announced yesterday on WordPress.org that WordPress and Textpattern are joining forces. It will now be called WordPattern.

Automattic recently announced WordPress Widgets. They are a plugin for WP 2.0 which was previously just available on WordPress.com but now is ready to be used by WP.org bloggers.
You must also have a widget ready theme.
